SSDs come in many different form factors, connectors, and protocols. 2.5in, M.2 (SATA & NVM-e), NVM-e PCI-e, and U.2 SSDs are the primary types of SSDs, each offering distinct advantages and disadvantages.

Traditional 2.5in SSDs are mounted to the SSD tray within a PC tower. 2.5in SSDs are connected to the motherboard via SATA and have a maximum transfer speed of 500-600 MB/s. SSDs with M.2 SATA interface and 2.5in SATA III interface, But smaller size and only support by the mainboard with M.2 interface. The maximum transfer speed of SSDs using PCI-E interface & NVM-e protocol is about 7000-7500 MB/s, 10x more than the speed of SSDs using SATA technology.


SATA 2.5in SSD and M.2 SATA SSD are less expensive. Although they are not as fast as NVM-e SSDs, they still much faster than HDDs (which is about 160 MB/s transfer speeds) and can handle most tasks efficiently. They only take about 15~30seconds to turn on computer, while HDD takes about few mins.


2.5in SSD drives are easier to remove and replace than M.2 drives since they are separate from the motherboard and you don’t have to work with other components when you upgrade your computer.
